Best Flash games of all time?

I got to thinking over the weekend, just what are the BEST Flash games of all time?

I guess there are many ways to choose a list like that.  You could choose the games which you personally found the most fun to play.  You could look at the stats on a bunch of games sites, and see which games have been played the most.  You could even run a poll and let people vote…

I compiled my list differently though.  You see, I’ve een involved in the Flash games industry for almost 10 years, both as a website owner and publisher, and as a developer.  Over those years I’ve played thousands of games - some great, some quite terrible.  And in that time a few games have really stood out from the crowd, either because they were the first to do something new, of because whatever they did was done with real style.

So I’ve compiled my list of the best Flash games of all time over at Squidoo.  Why not pop over there, see whether or not you agree, and play some great games!

Whether you agree, don’t agree, or maybe have a suggestion of your own be sure to leave a comment!

Keep having fun…

Troy - New free Flash game for a Monday morning!

It comes every week, and it’s never fun, but Monday morning can be made a little more bearable with the Kwikgames free game of the week!

This week’s excuse for wasting 30 minutes in the office today is Troy

Your goal is to defend the castle from attack.  You start with only a tower basllista and swordsmen at your disposal, but as you progress you can purchase upgrades to your tower, special attacks, and the ability to create advanced units such as heros and giants.

Will you be able to fend off the attackers?  Will you become a legend?

Here’s a challenge for you… try and beat 45000 final score on your first go!

Have fun…

Crush The Castle Strategy Guide

Crush The Castle has certainly been one of the most popular games here at Kwikgames recently. I’ve been getting a few emails about how to beat the game, especially one or two of the later levels, so since I had a bit of spare time this morning I thought I’d make a strategy guide.

The game itself is very simple, just fire a trebuchet (an old siege weapon, a bit like a catapult) in an effort to “Crush the castle “.

In fact, the name is a bit of a misnomer since how much, or how little of the castle remains standing has no effect on your progress… To move on to the next level you actually need to kill the occupants of the castle. This is achieved by either hitting them directly with your ammo, or causing an object (part of the castle, or another person) to knock into them.

The early levels are really quite simple. Your only ammo to begin with is a single small stone, so the first few levels should be used just to get the hang of aiming and firing. Simply click the mouse once to start the trebuchet, and again to release. The angle and velocity of the shot are dependant on exactly when you release, so careful timing is needed.

As the levels progress you’ll be allowed to use bigger and better ammunition. After the single stone you get to use multiple stones, bigger stones, and finally bombs. While the ammo tends to get “better” as you progress, don’t be too hasty to use the newest ammo. There are certain levels when using a simpler ammo is an advantage.

For example, level 13 introduces the large stone, but that is a total red herring. The best way to beat that level is to use 3 small stones, and land one of them in the gap in the building so that it lands on the queen’s head!

It’s also worth noting that you don’t have to wait for a shot to hit before firing another. Some levels are easier if you fire 3 or 4 volleys of shots in a row, each one hitting while the castle is still wobbling from the previous shot!

Search for weaknesses in each castle in order to asses the best tactics to beat the level. Level 14 is a good example. The king is fairly well protected on the right of the castle, but a quick look at the scenery shows spikes below and to the right of the king, who is standing on a sort of “see saw”. Firing 2 or more large rocks onto the ledge on the left of the castle causes the see-saw to rock and the king falls down onto the rocks!

My final tip is about using the bombs. While there is no doubt they are very powerful, they have a major disadvantage in that they explode on contact with the castle. Stones on the other hand can be bounced, making it easier to reach targets to the far right!

For a walkthrough of all the levels, check out this video I made, showing the tactics I use to beat Crush The Castle, and beat many levels on just one or two shots!

I hope you liked the guide, leave a comment if you have any other tactics, or if you want a guide to any other games!

Very simple, very addictive little game!

I found this game while I was searching for new games for the site this morning and couldn’t resist adding it here. It’s not quite as involved as most Flash games. The graphics are incredibly simple, and the gameplay is even simpler, but it’s just plain FUN!

Hop The Gap

Your goal is simply to help a little stick figure man jump across gaps to reach the red flag at the end of each level. Set the angle and the power of the jump with the mouse. There are three main stages with ten levels each, for a total of thirty levels. There might just be a secret stage that you can unlock if you hop well enough! There are other unlockables too, so hop as fast as you can and keep your accuracy tight.

Controls: Just use your mouse to set the angle, and click to jump… that’s it!

Who would have though such an entertaining and addictive game could be created with such simple controls and gameplay… hope you like it!

This week we have 5 quite different, but fun free games for you to play. Of the 3 new puzzle games, OnThe Edge is my pick. It brings nothing new to the table in terms of gameplay, but what it does it does well - simple, stylish graphics and well design levels.

My other top pick for the week is Pirate Golf Adventure. Don’t be put off by the name if you’re not a sports game fan, this is an arcade/action game not a golf game despite the name. Great graphics, a decent sortyline and well thought out levels make this my game of the week!

New games updates

3 new games added to the site today, and a good mixture of genres so something for everyone…

Pairs memory game
A nice variation on classic solitaire which is quick to learn, but hard to master .
Letter RIP word game
Shoot the outlaw’s spurious letters to create real words.
Red Remover
Deceptively simple sounding puzzle game with lots of hiden features and bonuses to unlock on later levels.

Editor’s pick - Red Remover

Red Remover is definitely the pick f the bunch - it’s an incredibly simple concept with basic, almost amatuer looking graphics, but the simplicity of the gameplay allows the puzzle to shine.  You simply have to click colored blocks to make them disappear, but removing one block can have dramatic effects on the other blocks on screen.  You’ll need to use timing carefully, use gravity to your advantage, and sequence your removal of blocks carefully to progress through the 40 levels.

Some of the levels are extremely simple, but it’s worth getting through the easy early leels to have a try at some of the later ones which will really get your brain working.  The 40 levels can be completed fairly easily, but there is still more gameplay here as that then opens up “hidden” bonues features such as a “par” game where you have to go back and complete each level again in a minimum number of clicks.

All in all a very well made game, and one which will keep you entertained for a good while!
