New board games - from Battleships to Backgammon and more!

We said that we’d be adding free board games to the site today, and here they are…

Mahjongg The classic strategy game of Mahjongg (Shanghai). Select pairs of tiles to remove the from the board, but in the correct order or you’ll get stuck!.	Ultimate Battleship Now here’s a board game that doesn’t need an introduction… and this is a very nice version with great 3D graphics.	Multiplayer Backgammon Play against a friend, or a random player online in this classic board game.
The Perfect Ricochet In a game of still, judgement and strategy, you launch disks in an attempt to keep your disks on the target, and remove your opponent’s..	Minesweeper Clear the board and flag the mines against the clock.	GoMad: The Escape Slide the blocks in the correct sequence to get off the board.

That’s more than enough board game action to keep you busy for a good few hours!  (and if you only try one new game today, give The Perfect Ricochet a try… you’ll be wanting just one more go after the first attempt!)

4 great new word games

We’ve just added 4 great new word games to the free word games page on the site…

Word Minute In Word Minute your goal is to form as many words as you can, using the mouse, in one minute (now you’d never have guessed that from name now would you!) It’s a nicely made game with a slick interface, and simple clean graphics, and a lot of fun if you like this type if thing… give it a go!	Word Smith Again, in Word Smith your aim is to form as many words as you can within the time limit, carefully placing them on the board to create combos for the high score!
Text Mate Type letters to complete the partial words as fast as you can. Using the keyboard in TextMate, rather than the mouse tests your typing skills as well as your vocabulary… How many words do you really know?	Savvygram Use the keyboard to unscramble the anagrams against the clock.  The scrambled words appear on their own at first, then with a clue… and if you get really stuck you can skip a work for a 5 second penalty.

Governor Of Poker - Featured Game Review

Governor of Poker is different to every other poker game you’ve played. Rather than simply sitting at a table to play poker, your aim is to build up your reputation and wealth by playing multiple tournaments and cash games.

You begin the game in a small Texas town, with just your own home and a few hundred dollars.  At first all you can do is play tournament poker, where you buy-in and win money for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.  As you win tournaments you increase your wealth and can start buying houses.  Your reputation will also increase, and then you start getting invited to private cash games in other people’s houses.  In these games the stakes are high, and you can wager any houses you own, in addition to the cash on the table.

Buy all the houses in the town and you can wager on a horse to move to the next town along and continue to increase your fortune!

The “career” style gameplay makes for a more in-depth game than most of the other free offerings on the Internet.  The graphics, audio and interface are superb, and even without the career style gameplay Governor of Poker would still be great, even just as a plain poker game.

Texas Hold’em

As you might expect, the poker played in GOP is Texas Hold’em.  Up to 8 players sit around the table, with a dealer.  The players are all animated, and the in-game voices are very professionally done.  In fact, it’s one of the only poker games I’ve played where I didn’t mute the audio instantly, but if you choose to there are a host of options available from the menus.  The game auto-saves when you quit, which is a nice touch allowing you to come back and pick up where you left off.  There are some other nice features which make a big difference to gameplay, such as being able to skip hands where you fold, and go right to the showdown, which keeps the game moving at a nice pace.

All in all, Governor of Poker is by far the best Flash poker game on the Internet, and one of the best player vs computer card games I’ve ever played, hands down.  Whether you’re a card shark, or a newbie to the world of poker you’ll find this game to be a lot of fun, which is why it’s the Kwikgames featured game of the week!  [play game]

Flash games classroom - coming soon!

In a few weeks time, I’ll be releasing my long awaited Flash games classroom course in association with Kwikgames. The course has been in development for quite some time, and is based on a series of workshops I taught in 2007/2008. Now that Kwikgames has been relaunched we’ve decided to conduct a survey of Kwikgames visitors to find out exactly what YOU want to see in the course!

The course will be video based, taught over 16 modules with video tuition and accompanying case study games. Each case study will include the actual game source code (FLA and AS files) and a series of videos explaining the core concepts, how they are implemented, and how to recreate similar effects in your own games.

The course is designed to take anyone, even a total beginner, through the entire game design and development process step by step. By the end of the course, you will be capable of creating your own high quality games suitable for publishing on the Internet, and even selling. We even cover game promotion, how to get your game seen and played by millions of Internet users, and how to turn your new hobby into an income.

More free games

We have quite a few games coming to the site this week, including some great new puzzle games, some word games, a couple of sports games, and some good old action arcade games… but today is just the tip of the iceburg with these 3 to keep you occupied!

Kaban Sheep

Here’s a unique concept for a game that really works… Your mission is to round up the sheep and get them into the pen of the correct color. Your character is a warthog (I think) and you run around using the WASD or cursor keys, trying to coax the pesky sheep into their pens. There are a number of things you can pick up to help you along the way, such as a lasso to help you catch the sheep, or a fleece to use as a disguise (warthog in sheep’s clothing!).

The basic premise of the game is quite simple, and the gameplay is simple enough too but once you have 2, or 3 different color sheep to content with the levels start to get quite challenging and you’ll need cunning and tactics to progress. A great way to waste 2 minutes on a kwik break!

Word It

If you like word games you’ll love this.  Amix of Scrabble and crossword puzzles, the idea is to rearrange the letters on the grid so that they all form words.  Of course, scrabble style, there are limited vowels and you’ll need to think carefully if you’re going to complete each level in a decent time.

A built in dictionary feature is an added bonus, and 2 different play modes will keep you occupied for a good while!

Buggy Bricks

This is my favorite of the bunch today.  There are only 14 levels unfortunately, so it won’t take you long to complete, but the simple challenge of navigating through the obstacles and shooting the bricks is one that’s sure to put a smile on your face!  Simple graphics, simple gameplay, lots of fun!

I’ve just added 3 new games to the site…

Paper Planes

Here’s a nice unique and simple little game with a lot of charm… Simply control your plane’s descent by turning left or right. That, in turn, affects not only your direction but also your vertical and horizontal speed.

The idea is to fly through each course as fast as possible, but of course the faster you fly the more likely you are to crash! 3 game modes including multi-player will keep you coming back for more!

Sniper Assassin 3

The sequel to the very popular Sniper Assassin 2 (yeah I know, imaginative names!) is more of the same… Simple but stylish graphics and well designed levels will I’m sure make this just as popular as the last one.

Essentially you are a sniper assassin (duh!) and you progress through a series of missions in the form of a story.  There’s not a lot of plot, but the levels are well designed and the control system is good… Certainly enough to keep you occupied for a kwik break!

Multi Tasking 2

If you never played the first game then you’re in for a shock. Amatuer looking graphics and simple gameplay can be forgiven since the game is just so addictive.

The idea is to control up to 4 mini-games simultaneously which is incredibly frustrating, but some how always having me click for just one more go… Just be sure to mute the really annoying and repetetive music!

New games, server maintenance, and more updates…

Apologies to anyone trying to reach the site this afternoon, as part of the new “Kwikgames 2.0″ we’ve been transferring the databased to a new server location and doing some “behind the scenes” updates to make sure things run smoothly.

To make up for the short outage, I’ve added 5 new games to the site, and will be committing to add a MINIMUM of 5 new games every single week! That’s right, you can expect a new game for each day of the week (not including weekends) from now on. Stunt Mania
Fun little side-scrolling bike game. You’re riding a stunt/trials bike with the aim of racing through each level, and performing mad stunts along the way… Good for wasting a few minutes at the office!

Pickies
Now here’s a great little puzzler… The cute little Pickies (think Japanese, bright colored teddy bears!) need matching up with others of the same colour. Of course whenever a game sounds so simple it’s also infuriatingly annoying but highly addictive, so give it a try!

Hard Target
Simple Virtua Cop style shooting game… good for a kwik break!

Army Copter
Old skool side scrolling shoot-em-up… what’s more to say?

4 Wheel Madness
